European Oak Rift Fume

Rosalía de Castro (1837-1891) is a well known Spanish writer and probably the most relevant one for the Galician literature. She’s work has contribute to the recovery and valorisation of the vernacular language. In 2012 the ground level of her born house was refurbished to improve the exhibition conditions.

The architectonical project ( Casa-Museo Rosalía de Castro ) displayed a cross of black walls in its interior defining four different rooms. That sign was built up with darkened oak veneer. Oak is the traditional tree of Galicia. Rift cut was selected to take advantage of a straight grain and the natural wood was darkened with no chemical products, just by smoking it.

Walls were carefully veneered finding different solutions to the integration of the electric installation. Also the contact between the new veneered walls and the existing construction was designed to valorise the interaction between the two elements. Finally the European Oak Rift Fume was used to complete the museum with some ad-hoc furniture as the reception desk.
