Satin Walnut also known as Walnut Red Gum or Sweet Gum is a popular species indigenous to the South countries of North America. It has a beautiful reddish heartwood, a straight grain, fine pore structure, and satiny finish similar to Cherry. This veneer is often available beautifully figured with dark pigmented markings.

Satin Walnut logs that are to be sliced into veneer are carefully selected for heart color and soundness.They are mostly quartered. The more movement there is in this streaking, the more valuable the veneer since it produces highly decorative “feathering” when matched.

This hardwood species is available fumed. The smoking process is breathtaking, it speeds up the natural ageing process. The fuming reacts with the acid in the older mature wood, changing the colour to various shades of grey brown to almost dark black, sometimes slightly streaked lighter or darker. As a result, the natural beauty of the wood is emphasized. The overall tone darkens significantly reaching a dark brown elegant, nuanced by golden pores which give a great luminosity.
